Which fat burners are the current market leaders

Thermo Ripped Review

Thermo Ripped is a sports supplement produced in New South Wales, by Balance Health Nutrition. The company markets a number of other supplements and has a good reputation for producing quality products. Thermo Ripped has been developed to provide the kind of fat burning benefits bodybuilders and other athletes are likely to require prior to an upcoming competition or sporting event.

The main promised benefits are:

  • Multi-thermogenic formula
  • Powerful antioxidant and potent fat metaboliser
  • Provides Oxedrine and Levocarnitine [synephrine & carnitine]
  • Look cut

The marketing material fails to explain how any of the above benefits are likely to be achieved, and no links are provided to supportive information or clinical trials, but all the ingredients are listed, as are the inclusion rates, so the blend itself may provide the best indication of various processes involved.

Key Ingredients & Blend Potential

Each capsule provides:

Standardised Herbal Extracts Equivalent to Dry

  • Citrus Aurantium (Bitter Orange) (Fruit) (1.25g): A fruit-based synephrine provider. Synephrine is a powerful metabolic stimulator that became popular after the ingredient Ephedra was banned. Synephrine produces a slight increase in the body’s core temperature that speeds the metabolism, boosts energy levels, and improves the body’s fat burning capabilities.
  • Coleus Forskohlii (2.125g): An herbal ingredient that is a mainstay of Indian medicine, coleus forskohlii has a good reputation for decreasing fat mass so, not surprisingly; it is a common inclusion in weight loss blends. It also appears to work as a testosterone booster, so it is often incorporated into bodybuilding supplements.
  • Paullinia Cupana (Guarana) (1.429g): An ingredient that is widely used in the supplement industry, paullinia cupana is a caffeine-rich ingredient that is usually utilized as an energy booster, but like all caffeine providers it is also capable of assisting weight loss.

Herbal Extract Equivalent to Dry

  • Capsicum Frutescens (Cayenne) (fruit) (50mg): A potent metabolism boosting ingredient that can fire up the thermogenic fat burning process and deliver very credible weight loss results.
  • Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) (Rhizome) (100mg): Ginger is famed for its abilities as a digestive aid, and has recently acquired a growing reputation as both a metabolism booster and a fat burner.
  • Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) (Leaf) (125mg): A healthful ingredient that is bursting with antioxidants, green tea has also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity. However, the main reason for its popularity as a weight loss aid stems from its ability to shrink the size of fat cells and trigger fat oxidisation.

Nutritional Cofactors & Minerals

  • S-Alpha Lipoic Acid (50mg): A fatty acid that is important to efficient energy metabolism. It also boosts the activity of anti-oxidant enzymes and is often hailed for its anti-aging abilities. High doses (1,800mg) have been linked to weight loss, but the amount included here is significantly less that that used in supportive studies.
  • Levocarnitine (as Tartrate) (50mg): L-carnitine assists energy metabolism. The body can manufacture its own supply, and it is also obtained from certain foods. L-carnitine is often included in weight loss formulation because it is believed to act as a fat burner, but it probably offers little of value in this regard unless a deficiency has resulted in a sluggish metabolism.
  • Chromium (as Chromic Chloride) (26μg): A chromium provider. Chromium is an essential mineral that can be useful for regulating glucose metabolism. During the 1950 it was dubbed “the glucose factor” after clinical trials conducted on rats revealed its potential as a fat burning ingredient.
  • Chromium (as Picolinate) (8.33μg): A second dose of chromium.
  • Iodine (as Potassium Iodide) (30μg): Iodine is useful for ensuring thyroid health. The importance of correct thyroid activity should never be underestimated because it produces hormones that are important for an efficient metabolism. Poor thyroid health can lead to weight gain.
How to Take Thermo Ripped –  Capsules should be taken before meals, up to three times per day. The required dose is 1-2 capsules, which should always be washed down with a glass of water. The recommended dosage should never be exceeded.

Side Effects, Health Issues & Supplementary Information

If any side effects have been reported the manufacturer’s website fails to disclose the fact, but it is always a wise precaution to seek medical advice before commencing supplementation with a new product. This is especially important in the case of pregnant or breastfeeding mothers and people who have existing health issues.

Purchasing Options & Considerations

Two size options are available (60 capsules and 120 capsules) but it is not possible to purchase Thermo Ripped from the manufacturer’s website. Several online stores stock the product, including Mr Supplement and Discount Vitamin Express. Expect to pay around AUD$ 30 for the sixty capsule option or about twice that price for 120 capsules.
