Reducta Tablets Review

Reducta is a ‘hunger reduction’ product manufactured in Australia. It has been formulated with natural ingredients which are associated with reduced hunger – or in other words, appetite suppression.

Appetite suppressors have been known to be quite successful when used in conjunction with a controlled calorie intake, for obvious reasons.

The company also produces a chewing gum variant of the Reducta brand. This is an innovative adaptation of the classic pill format but the product details of the gum – particularly the ingredients – would leave a customer wondering what they are really chewing on.

Promised Benefits of Reducta

The benefit of Reducta is fairly simple:

Appetite Suppression / Hunger Reduction

Aside from this, there is little that the main ingredient – Caralluma – is associated with.

Saffron may have some secondary benefits, such as antioxidant and antidepressant effects. With respect to depression and mood alleviation, the science is in the early stages.

What Is Reducta and How Does It Work?

Reducta contains Caralluma Fimbriata and Saffron (Crocus Sativus).

Both of these ingredients have been associated with hunger reduction. It is not currently known exactly how Caralluma Fimbriata does this, though it is expected that the pregnane glycosides – one its bioactives – is responsible.

These may increase ATP (adenosine triphosphate) levels in the brain in order to decrease appetite.

Saffron has been shown to reduce appetite in acute high doses (175mg) in overweight women. The only issue with this is that chronic (long term) supplementation at this level may be toxic. This is discussed further in the side effects and safety section below.

Reducta Side Effects and Health Issues

Caralluma has been well tolerated in studies and exerts no significant side effects. Saffron may be a different story when taken long term (26 weeks is considered long term in this instance although some effects occur after 8 weeks).

Given the recommended dose is 15mg per day if the user is to take it chronically, and that doubling that to 30mg per day is not advised, it may not be prudent to take Reducta daily, long term.

Is Reducta Recommended?

Until we know more about the effects of Saffron at the dose included in each tablet of Reducta, we are not in a position to recommend the product.

The idea of the chewing gum is a good one, although again, the Saffron content is a cause for doubt.

Xenical is the prescription form of Olistat

Alli is the over-the-counter (OTC) form.

Orlistat is an anti-obesity drug which is marketed as Xenical by Roche, when offered as a prescription medication by doctors.

It is also marketed as Alli by GlaxoSmithKline, when sold OTC in pharmacies.

Studies show the effect for Xenical over the course of a year equates to about 5.5 lbs weight extra loss compared with placebo, under diet controlled conditions.

This isn’t a profound effect, and many consider the side effect (which is mainly steatorrhea – oily, loose stool) is not worth the extra few pounds a year.

There are also other options available in the form of a powerful fat burners / appetite suppressants which we would recommend instead of Xenical – Olistat – Alli.

Xenical – Alli – Orlistat in Review

Xenical / Alli is basically a lipase inhibitor. This means that it prevents the absorption of fat to some extent.

This mechanism results in the fat passing through as waste, hence the major side effect being oily, loose stool.

The scientific studies generally found that when used in conjunction with a controlled diet, the use of Oristat results in a few more pounds being lost over a whole year.

Xenical Reception and Controversy

The drug – although being available in the US, UK and EU as over-the-counter – has had a controversial path to that status, particularly in the US.

The arguments against it being allowed to be sold are issues of safety and necessity. The detractors say that it can cause too many side effects and is not effective enough as it is.

Xenical Side Effects and Health Issues

The main problem people have is persistent steatorrhea which means loose, oily stool for as long as the drug is taken.

Other potential side effects include:

Lowered Absorption of Vitamins (a multi-vitamin should be taken to help boost them)

Xenical Alternative Options

You may be a little put off from using this drug after reading the above list of side effects. We wouldn’t blame you.

In fact from a risk vs reward perspective, it isn’t a very attractive deal, especially when Alli costs quite a lot per month and Xenical needs a prescription from a doctor.
